Trump rules out Iran strikes before the midterms — and markets take a breath
A day after reports that he had asked the Pentagon for strike options, President Trump said the United States will not attack Iran before November's midterm elections, citing productive talks. Brent has eased 1.3% to $102.58 after Thursday's 2.9% jump, European shares are rebounding this morning and Hong Kong rose 1.8%. Thursday itself was difficult: the Nasdaq fell 1.25% as chipmakers sold off and Europe's banks hit three-month lows, although Treasury yields fell and the five-year slipped back below 5%. The ECB's accounts flagged upside risks to inflation, and Hurricane Isaias is strengthening as it heads for the US Gulf Coast. — Trump rules out Iran strikes before the midterms — and markets take a breath
